Salary: Commensurate with experience, in accordance with NIH and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai guidelines. Department: Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Institute (DOMI) Physical work location: (must be proper street address) 1428 Madison Ave, Atran building 5 th floor Name PI or Supervisor: (include phone and email) Liora Katz, liora.katz@mssm.edu Web link to Lab: https://profiles.icahn.mssm.edu/liora-s-katz Web link to Department: Administrative Contact: Jessica Correa- jessica.ortiz3@mssm.edu
Details of Research Project: The laboratory investigates pancreatic beta-cell biology, focusing on the mechanisms of beta-cell failure, adaptive expansion, and stress resilience in metabolic disease. Supported by multiple active NIH R01 and R03 grants, this project specifically evaluates transcription factor dynamics, including the ChREBP axis, and cytoprotective mechanisms. The incoming postdoctoral fellow will lead efforts to study early drivers of beta-cell failure and evaluate novel therapeutic small-molecule 14-3-3 molecular glues (such as Compound 43) designed to shield beta-cells from glucolipotoxicity and cytokine stress.
Technical Duties: Mandatory hands-on mouse handling Core molecular biology and biochemistry protocols. Confocal Imaging NGS sequencing and analysis (optional)
Educational and other Requirements for the position: Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related discipline. Experience Required: Candidates must possess a strong, demonstrable background in molecular biology and biochemistry. Mandatory hands-on experience in mouse handling and in vivo protocols is required. Prior expertise in pancreatic islet biology is highly preferred. Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project: To elucidate the pathways mediating beta-cell failure and validate therapeutic interventions utilizing molecular glues to preserve beta-cell mass and function. The fellow will be expected to drive the project toward high-impact peer-reviewed publications, present research at national/international conferences (such as the ADA Scientific Sessions or HIRN meetings), and contribute to grant applications.
